Samsung gives you more ways than any other phone

Samsung Galaxy phones, running One UI, have more built-in screenshot methods than almost any other Android device — buttons, a palm gesture, an on-screen button, and scroll capture for long pages. Here is every method, which to use when, and what to do with the screenshots after.

The short version

The method that works on every Galaxy phone is Volume Down + Side (Power) button, pressed together and released quickly. Samsung also offers Palm swipe, an Edge panel button, a Quick Settings tile, and scroll capture for full pages.

Method 1: Button combination

Press Volume Down and the Side button at the same time, then release quickly. The screen flashes and a toolbar appears at the bottom. This works on every Galaxy phone — S series, A series, Z Fold, and Z Flip.

Hold the buttons too long and you may trigger the power menu instead, so a quick press-and-release is the trick.

Method 2: Palm swipe

Swipe the edge of your hand across the screen, left to right or right to left. To enable it:

  • Open Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures.
  • Turn on Palm swipe to capture.

This is handy when you want a one-handed, buttonless capture.

Method 3: Edge panel

Samsung's Tasks Edge panel includes a Take screenshot button:

  • Swipe in from the Edge panel handle on the side of the screen.
  • Open the Tasks panel and tap Take screenshot.

Method 4: Quick Settings tile

Swipe down twice from the top to open the Quick Panel and tap Take screenshot. If you don't see it, tap the + to add it from the available toggles.

Method 5: Scroll capture for long pages

To capture a whole webpage or chat thread that runs past one screen:

  • Take a normal screenshot using any method above.
  • In the toolbar that appears, tap the scroll capture icon (two downward arrows).
  • Keep tapping it to capture more of the page.

Where Samsung saves your screenshots

Galaxy phones usually store screenshots in DCIM → Screenshots (some models use Pictures → Screenshots). You will find them in the Gallery app's Screenshots album. For the full breakdown, see where screenshots are stored on Android.

The part Samsung doesn't solve

Samsung makes *capturing* easy. What it does not do is help you remember *why* you captured something or surface it at the right time. A screenshot of a bill due date, a parking spot, a recipe, or a product to compare lands in the same chronological gallery as everything else — and quietly gets forgotten.

That is the job of a screenshot reminder app. It reads the text in each screenshot with OCR, gives it a clear title, sorts it into a category, and lets you set a reminder so the capture resurfaces exactly when you need it. RemindShot adds that action layer on top of Samsung's excellent capture tools.

If you also want to tidy the Screenshots album itself, see how to organize screenshots on Samsung Galaxy.

Frequently asked questions

What is the easiest way to screenshot on a Samsung Galaxy?

Press Volume Down and the Side button together and release quickly. This works on every Galaxy model. Palm swipe is a good buttonless alternative once enabled in Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures.

How do I take a long screenshot on Samsung?

Take a normal screenshot, then tap the scroll capture icon (two downward arrows) in the toolbar that appears. Keep tapping it to extend the capture down the page.

Why isn't palm swipe working on my Galaxy phone?

Palm swipe is off by default. Enable it under Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures → Palm swipe to capture, then swipe the edge of your hand flat across the screen.

Where do Samsung screenshots go?

Most Galaxy phones save screenshots to DCIM → Screenshots, visible in the Gallery's Screenshots album. Some models use Pictures → Screenshots. See where screenshots are stored on Android.

How do I remember what a Samsung screenshot was for?

Use a screenshot reminder app that runs OCR and lets you set a reminder, so the capture is searchable and resurfaces when you need it instead of sitting in the gallery. See how to set reminders for screenshots on Android.
